Cerca a Medellín, llegando por la vía que lleva a la Costa, se encuentra el corregimiento de Santiago del Túnel. Su nombre deriva de la cercanía con el histórico Túnel de la Quiebra, obra de ingeniería que conectó Medellín con el puerto fluvial de Puerto Berrío (sobre el río Magdalena) a través de Cisneros; y que en su tiempo significó la apertura de Antioquia al comercio mundial y la cercanía de Medellín con la Costa Atlántica del país.

North from Medellín, taking the route that goes to the Atlantic Coast, you can find the village of Santiago del Túnel. Its name derives from the nearby Túnel de la Quiebra, a historical work of engineering that connected Medellín and Puerto Berrío (the fluvial port of Antioquia on the Magdalena river, the main waterway of Colombia) through the village of Cisneros; which helped Antioquia join the world commerce and approached Medellín -within the mountains of the Cordillera Central- with the Atlantic Coast.
